After ditching Arkansas city living and moving back to Kansas after just a year and a half, we bought a “comfortable” house. I wanted a house that I could maintain and manage all by myself if need be. Aaron’s health was not at 100%, and I wanted one less overwhelming thing so I could focus my energy on him. The AR house was too big and required too much of my attention and was not allowing us to rest, heal, and get our feet back under us. This home was smaller but still offered some of the things we really liked in AR. We still had a bonus room, photography studio, large fenced yard, and a master suite.
Aaron had always envisioned staying in the Army for life, so when that plan didn’t happen, we needed to create and dream of a new way of life for our family. In this house, we were able to focus on exploring a “post military” way of life with the support of family and friends being just down the road vs 2 hours away.
We tried things. We failed at a few things. And we succeeded at a few things. Along the way, a “fuck it, what do we have to lose?” attitude was harnessed, and as a family, grew the confidence to make big jumps to start building a new life!!!
One BIG shove in the back was covid. Most people either sank or swim. We chose to figure out a way to swim. We pulled K out of school before the new school year began and decided to homeschool her. We agreed we were did not want to deal with “are we having school today or not” stress with the public school.
Shortly after the world lost their minds, we bought our first travel trailer. Kansas wasn’t the most locked down state, but it wasn’t the most free either. And this is where our #fulltimervlife adventure would begin!
